I congratulate and thank West Bedlington Town Council and Northumberland Brass Band Association for hosting a wonderful day of musical entertainment, Brass in Bedlington, on Saturday, September 5, at Atlee Park.
I would like to thank all of the bands who took part – Jayess Newbiggin Band, Hexham Brass, Bedlington Brass, Ellington Colliery Band and Backworth and Ashington Colliery bands.
They took the audience down memory lane to happy times and demonstrated that their music is as current and relevant as it ever was.
It was great to remember the days when Bedlington hosted carnivals and the Miners’ Picnic, and everyone in the community joined in and got absorbed in the fun and thrill of the event.
Days when community mattered and its spirit didn’t come in a glass with ice and a slice followed by a shot.
It was class to see the bandstand used by actual bands after so many years.
I hope very much this is just the start of many to come and that the local community gets behind and supports these events in the future.
Very well done and many thanks to all those who took part, you were amazing!
