Battery opening for season

VISITORS can experience first hand what it would have been like to man a defensive post during the two world wars.

Blyth Battery, one of numerous outposts on the east coast to protect or warn of enemy invasion or attack, opens its doors to the public this weekend.

It will be open from Saturday every weekend until the end of September, and will also open on a Tuesday from 11am to 4pm.

The battery’s opening exhibition will be on industry, ship building and mining, where Nigel Grey will do a rope splicing on Sunday, April 17.
