Proud pupils were certainly set for the Olympics after clocking up more than 9,000km on the Road to Rio.

Children from Meadowdale Academy in Bedlington took on the Get Set challenge to run, walk, skip, hop or dance the distance from the school to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil by completing laps of a 1km track.

The youngsters covered the distance in PE lessons, at lunch times and during Creative Curriculum week, when they also tested materials for pole vaulting, took part in Paralympic sports Goal Ball and Boccia, created Latin American themed dances and produced Rio inspired artwork.

Parents also joined in during the carnival celebration.

The school was one of only 140 nationwide to receive a golden baton in recognition of its achievement, and pupils can now put their feet up to watch the Games.
