Parents fighting against the proposed closure of a south east Northumberland school have turned to the prime minister for help.

Guide Post Middle School was earmarked for closure by Northumberland County Council after it was one in a series of facilities visited by Ofsted inspectors following concerns over the standard of education in Northumberland.

It was placed in special measures and consultation began on closing the school from August, leading parents to begin campaigning to keep it open.

Families of children attending the school have now taken their protest at plans to close the school to 10 Downing Street in a bid to get the decision overturned.

Alison Fairbairn from the ‘Save Guidepost Middle School From Closure’ group, said they would do whatever it took to save the middle school from closure.

The group’s plight has now been passed to the relevant government department to be looked into.
