Body pulled from River Wansbeck

The body of a young man has been pulled from a river.

Officers received a report of a body in the River Wansbeck near to Blackclose Bank in Ashington, Northumberland, at 10.50am on Thursday, July 4.

The discovery was made 500 metres east of the railway bridge, on the Ashington side of the river.

A 26-year-old man was declared dead at the scene.

Following enquiries it has been established that there is no third party involvement in the death.

A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to determine cause of death.

The dead man’s identity was not being released until next of kin have been informed.
