Young bookworms have scooped the top prize in a summer reading challenge.
Pupils at Grange View CofE First School in Widdrington Station have won the county’s Summer Reading Challenge school prize for 2014.
Just over 81 per cent of youngsters at the school completed last year’s summer reading challenge by completing six books over their summer holidays – a total of 91 out of the 112 pupils.
The annual county council event is proving increasingly popular, with each child encouraged to read six books or more during their holidays for which they can collect rewards and incentives.
Coun Val Tyler, policy board member for infrastructure and culture, said: “Grange View First School is a forward-thinking school which really embraced this reading challenge and it was a pleasure to be able to present them with their prize.”
