Jailed Ashington sailor Nick Dunn has received a boost in his fight for justice.
The 29-year-old is currently serving a five-year jail term in India after being among six Britons arrested for firearms offences.
Nick was part of the crew on board the MV Seaman Guard Ohio protecting waters off the Indian coast when it took shelter from storms in an Indian port.
Charges were initially quashed but after Indian authorities launched an appeal, he was given the jail term earlier this year.
But last week, the six were visited by Foreign and Commonwealth office minister Hugo Swire MP.
Mr Swire tweeted: ‘I visited the six British men of the MV Seaman Guard Ohio in Chennai. I again raised their cases with the Government in Tamil Nadu and Delhi.’
Nick’s sister Lisa, who has fought for her brother’s release, said: “I have no doubt in my mind that the visit by the minister will have meant everything to Nick and the men as it certainly does to us, the families. I have to believe the minister’s trip to see the men personally shows that this case is at the forefront of his agenda and that he does believe in them.
“It is what we have waited 32 long agonising months for.”
