Staff and customers at a south east Northumberland building society branch havehelped raised £400 for Asthma UK.
The Blyth branch of Leeds Building Society supported the mutual’s overall fundraising total in support of Asthma UK by promoting bookmarks of the children’s TV character Bagpuss.
The branch in Church Street took part in the society’s national branch network in offering the Bagpuss bookmarks.
Jonathan Epworth, Blyth branch manager, said: “We are very pleased to have supported Asthma UK by selling their Bagpuss bookmarks.
“They certainly caught the imagination, thereby proving that the ‘soggy old cloth cat’ remains popular with people of all ages.
“This campaign also provided a great opportunity for our staff and customers in Blyth to raise awareness of this very common condition, whilst raising essential funds to reduce its impact on people’s lives.”
Kay Boycott, Chief Executive of Asthma UK, added: “We want to thank every single Leeds Building Society customer who generously helped to raise £400 for Asthma UK.
“This kind donation will help us to fund research to continue to find life changing new treatments and ultimately a cure for the one in 11 people with asthma in the UK.
“Someone is having an asthma attack every ten seconds in the UK and sadly three people still die every single day, despite research highlighting that two of these deaths could have been prevented.
“Anyone interested in helping us to stop life threatening asthma attacks should visit www.asthma.org.uk or call our Helpline on 0800 121 62 44.”
