David Robinson scored late to secure Blyth AFC a valuable three points with a 2-1 victory over Thornaby at Teesdale Park, writes Andrew McDonnell.

Michael Chilton broke the deadlock on 22 minutes and the Braves went into half-time with a narrow lead.

Charlie Graham equalised for the hosts on 80 minutes, but the visitors responded and Robinson fired low into the net just two minutes later.

The Braves managed to see out the remaining minutes – including the five additional minutes – to move up to second in the league table.

It was a quick start to the game by both sides as Jake Armitage’s cross was guided towards the goal by Chilton and the ‘keeper produced a great save to deny the striker.

Joe Posthill squandered a chance in a great position before Chilton guided an effort just over the bar just a minute later.

Both sides were pushing for the opener in an entertaining game, but it was the Braves who went ahead on 22 minutes when Robinson played the ball back out towards McRoberts and the winger’s cross found the head of the wide-open Chilton, who guided home for his 18th goal in as many games this season.

Blyth went on to dominate the rest of the first-half and Chilton was denied a second goal as his header was saved brilliantly by the ‘keeper from point-blank range.

The Braves picked up where they left off in the second-half , but the hosts struck a hammer blow on 80 minutes as they managed to find an equaliser. Hannah flicked on a cross towards the back post and Graham stooped low to head home.

Blyth reacted well by going back ahead 90 seconds later. McRoberts drove down the left and crossed towards the back post and Robinson volleyed home into the bottom corner.
