Young members of a brownie group have recently returned from a fun-filled four-day international adventure to celebrate the 100th birthday of the brownies.
The five intrepid girls from the 5th Ashington Brownies all aged seven to 11, joined Brownies from all over Great Britain for Euro Hop – a one-off girl-only trip organised to mark The Big Brownie Birthday.
The young holiday-makers boarded a coach bound for Château d’Ebblinghem in Northern France during the summer.
During their stay, they had the chance to try out sand yachting, tour a chocolate factory and enjoy a French-themed soirée. They also had the choice of a range of evening activities – including a disco to celebrate The Big Brownie Birthday in style.
For one day they hopped over to Bruges in Belgium and undertook a challenge trail, meeting Tintin and trying the local chocolates.
Leader Allison Walters said: “This was a huge adventure for the girls – some have never been away without their parents before.
“It was such an amazing way for the girls to mark The Big Brownie Birthday and I don’t think they’ll ever forget it.”
International adventures like Eurohop are just part of the range of activities, challenges and exciting opportunities open to Brownies.
Girls take part in a hugely varied weekly programme, incorporating everything from stargazing, world issues and science to abseiling, canoeing and zip-wiring.
