Brownies have been invited to take up a pet project to gain a new badge.
Cramlington’s Pets at Home store is supporting the youth scheme’s Friend to Animal badge with tailor-made workshops and books.
Children taking part in the project will receive advice from staff in all aspects of pet care, learning about shelter, food and water, health, appropriate company for animals and their living environment.
They will also learn how to care for small animals, fish and insects, and find out about the right habitats for the animals they meet, where they sleep, and how much exercise they need.
In addition, they will learn how to keep animals healthy and to recognise the symptoms of common illnesses.
The youngsters will be set a number of tasks, such as making an information poster about their favourite pet, helping an animal charity, or creating a quiz about endangered animals.
Store manager Debbie Joicey said: “Our friendly colleagues are always happy to share their extensive knowledge of pet care.
“The free workshops and workbooks will help local Brownies find out all the information they need to achieve some of their badge activity tasks, teaching them how to care for pets responsibly.”
Groups wishing to book a workshop should contact the store on 0845 600 8981.
