A family-run manufacturing firm is celebrating 20 years in business after becoming a world leader in its field.

HTL, which supplies controlled bolting, flange working and portable machines to a variety of sectors, was founded by Ray Jones in a facility the size of a single garage in Blyth.

It has been an incredible journey.

Mr Jones took on his nephew as his first employee in 1996 and the pair began by supplying a small range of hydraulic torque wrenches to the oil and gas industry.

Today it remains a family-run business, with several members holding key positions, but with eight global facilities and one of the largest rental fleets in Europe it has come a long way in two decades.

Its product lines are distributed to more than 40 countries and it is considered Europe’s largest independently-owned supplier to the controlled bolting sector.

Customers now come from a wide range of industries, including power generation, renewable energy, sub-sea and decommissioning, chemical, heavy engineering and construction.

Mr Jones said: “It has been an incredible journey, and the initial enthusiasm and commitment that empowered HTL 20 years ago is just as present as it has ever been with all HTL staff across our global entities.”

The business’ headquarters is now in an impressive 65,300sq.ft unit in Cramlington and its portfolio includes a presence in Australasia and Asia Pacific. It offers bolting, training, hydra press and hiretorque services, priding itself on customer service.
