A county mum who has been through a family tragedy is smiling again after winning a wedding dress competition.
Sales assistant Emma Sharp, from Pegswood, entered a competition to win a half price designer wedding gown from Kathryn S Trueman bridal shop in Bridge Street, Morpeth.
Entrants had to explain in 100 words or less why they deserved to win, and judges picked Emma’s story as the winner.
Last May, Emma and partner Colin Herdman’s five-week-old daughter Violet died after contracting whooping cough – a loss that has devastated the couple and their four other children.
Emma, who is eight months pregnant, said: “It’s been a really awful year. We all still miss Violet so much and will never forget her, but the new baby – and our wedding next year – are giving us something to look forward to.”
The couple plan to tie the knot in July 2016 and the shop’s owner Kathryn Trueman was on hand to help Emma choose the dress of her dreams.
And along with the discount, the shop presented her with a bouquet of flowers, Champagne and a £100 voucher to spend on accessories.
Emma said: “I’m just over the moon. When I started looking at the dresses, I imagined I would go for a vintage style but, instead, I picked something completely different.
“It was so hard to choose as all the gowns were truly stunning, but the one I’ve chosen is just so beautiful. It really is a dream wedding dress.”
Kathryn Trueman, whose shop stocks bridal wear from designers such as Claire Pettibone, Cymbeline and Terry Fox, said: “Emma is a very worthy winner and we know she will look and feel gorgeous on her big day.”
