A Blyth care home has received an award for its level of person centred dementia care.

The Oaks, a specialist care home that cares for people with dementia and other mental health related illnesses, has been awarded a silver PEARL accreditation for its work.

The PEARL – or Positively Enhancing And enriching Residents’ Lives – is achieved through meeting essential criteria within all aspects of a care home including person centred care delivery, object rich environment, individualised meal service, community links, staff training and more.

The Oaks manager Vicki Rees said: “There is always a focus on care homes that are delivering poor sometimes shocking, appalling care , but there are a huge number of good to very good care homes.

“We are delighted to now be accredited as a dementia specialist home.”
