Scarbrough Court, in Cramlington, held a special event to celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year.

Residents gathered in the home’s lounge to sample Chinese snacks and participate in a craft session, decorating Chinese dragons. A special activity was put on by nine-year-old Katie Braby, daughter of activities coordinator Dawn Peters.

Dawn said: “Katie likes visiting me at work and wanted to take part in the Chinese New Year celebrations to do something special for our residents.”

Katie had done some research into the tradition behind the celebrations and handed out lucky red envelopes.

Dawn said: “She created red envelopes with gold chocolate coins inside to give to residents. It was a lovely idea and residents were very happy to receive their envelopes.”

“Having visitors at the Home is important for residents to feel part of the local community and to make friends outside of the care home.”
