Cash award for plans to restore bandstand

A former bandstand is to be restored and a family activity area created thanks to a major cash boost.

SITA Trust has awarded £60,000 to Attlee Park Outdoor Performing Arts and Theatre Space in Bedlington after a successful bid by Northumberland County Council and Leading Link.

The money will help restore an existing bandstand used historically for the miners’ picnic, which has stood since the 1950s, and is in a state of disrepair.

A natural environmental outdoor performance space will be created around the bandstand and a ‘play area’ for children, including mazes, will also be built.

Lyn Horton, manager of Leading Link, said: “It is our intention to help regenerate what is an iconic venue in Attlee Park and help to put it back on the map – and this funding will help massively in trying to achieve that aim.”
