Cash to help group grow
Thousands of pounds has been donated to a horticultural project helping unemployed people in Ashington get back into work.
Northumberland CVA has received £4,920 from The Discovery Foundation, supported by Santander.
The grant will go towards an employee’s salary to oversee the Seeds to Success horticultural project which provides volunteers with practical horticultural experience and transferable skills to assist them into employment.
A delighted Anne Lyall, chief executive, at Northumberland CVA, said: “This grant will help our volunteers to gain transferable skills in horticulture, improve their health and well-being whilst also building their self-confidence and motivation.”
The charity provides information, advice, training and support to volunteers and local voluntary and community groups.
Stephen Harrison, branch manager at Santander’s Morpeth branch, said: “The Discovery Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK.
“Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Northumberland CVA, and hope the donation makes a real difference to local unemployed people.”
