Ceiling problem closes school
A school in south east Northumberland was forced to close for a few days following a ceiling collapse.
Pupils at Mowbray Primary School on Stakeford Lane, Guide Post, were sent home during the day last Thursday and it was closed all day Friday and Monday.
It re-opened on Tuesday after structural surveyors and Northumberland County Council health and safety officers completed their checks.
It also included the following: ‘The ceiling collapse was caused by water damage through a leak in the join between two sections of the roof.
‘It was not caused by a general structural failure.
‘Unfortunately, four classrooms will have to remain closed. Classes will be taught in alternative classrooms within school until the rooms are repaired.
‘I am working closely with the county council and its contractors to ensure that building works to fix these defects are carried out as quickly and safely as possible and with little further disruption to the school.’
