A woman in a Bedlington care home recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mary Parker was born in Barrington on January 19, 1918, and is now a resident at Baedling Manor, operated by Alcyone Healthcare.

She worked at Blyth Co-op and Purvis’ bakery in Croft Road, Blyth. She was married to the late John Parker, an electrician with LNER.

Mary has medals for her years as a blood donor. She is a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

A party took place at the care home on Saturday. In attendance were a number of family and friends, who came along from as far as the south coast and Edinburgh.

Managing director of Alcyone Healthcare, Darren Taylor, said: “Soon after we opened Baedling Manor in June 2017, Mary Parker became one of our very first residents.

“She had been looking forward to the party for a long time and she had been reminding us all that she was 99 and three-quarters.

“Mary is a real lovely lady and her 100th birthday is a magnificent achievement. Our team were honoured to be able to toast her extraordinary celebration.

“I was able to work closely with her and her close family to organise a party for 50 of her close family and friends in our Hartlands Suite function bar and we were also able to celebrate with a small tea party for our residents and staff team.

“We all wish Mary all the very best for many more years to come.”
