Dennis Burn and his friend Dominic Connor successfully completed the ride from Berwick to Cramlington over two days in November to raise money for the unit.

Dennis said: “I wanted to do something to thank the staff. Both my wife and I were treated in the unit last year – even starting treatment the same day – and the staff were absolutely brilliant.”

Ward sister Fiona Chatfield said: “We are delighted with what Dennis has achieved and the money raised will help to provide the extras which can make a real difference to patients undergoing treatment. Our thanks go to Dennis.”

The donation was made to Bright Northumbria which is the registered charity of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The charity aims to provide the extras to care that aren’t provided through regular NHS funding. For more details, call (0191) 2031354 or email
