Members of a cycling group are preparing to take on an epic challenge to ride 175 miles along Hadrian’s Cycleway for charity.

A total of 17 members of the Seaton Sluice Backpedalers are taking on the challenge after last year’s success when they rode the 155-mile Coast to Coast route from Workington to the Delaval Arms, raising £3,680 for the Percy Hedley Foundation and Marie Curie Cancer UK.

This year the group will take on the challenge over the next bank holiday weekend – from Saturday, May 24, to Monday, May 26 – with the Great North Air Ambulance set to benefit.

Michael Warren said: “This route , although longer, should be easier than last year’s successful Coast to Coast ride.

“If there is a strong wind and driving rain and if there are multiple punctures and mechanical breakdowns it won’t be easy, but these are worst case scenarios and hopefully everything will go well.”
