PHARMACIES in Northumberland have been awarded a ‘Healthy Living’ accreditation.
The Healthy Living Pharmacy Programme now has 17 accredited centres throughout the county.
Working in partnership with the Local Pharmaceutical Council, Northumberland County Council launched the programme in September 2012 and it recently awarded 17 pharmacies accreditation in a presentation at County Hall in Morpeth.
The programme was developed from a 2008 government White Paper entitled ‘Pharmacy in England: Building on strengths, delivering the future’, and described the role the community pharmacy could play in supporting public health.
In round one of the programme, the number of applications exceeded expectations.
It is now planned to run round two of the initiative in June of this year and will support successful applicants to develop further through to level two.
The accredited pharmacies include Wellway Pharmacy in Pegswood and Morpeth, Boots in Bridge House, Bedlington, Boots in Bridge Street, Morpeth, Lloyds in Brockwell, Cramlington; Rowlands Pharmacy in Ashington, Lloyds in Norham Road, Ashington and Boots in Market Place, Morpeth.
