Children helped with fundraising

THE Rotary Club of Bedlingtonshire would like to thank the many charitable people of Bedlington who put money in their collecting tins at Tesco and Morrisons during the run up to Christmas, and to those who donated money following the carol concert at Trinity Church in Front Street West.

A group of local schoolchildren saxophonists, under the tutelage of Miss Liane Todd, played Christmas music in Tesco and children from Meadowdale Middle School sang carols.

On another day at Morrisons, children from Mowbray First School, accompanied by their teacher Mrs Hannah, contributed to the Christmas scene singing carols beautifully.

We would also like to thank the Bedlington Scouts who helped the rotarians with the collections.

About £1,000 was collected over this period and this money will be distributed to various charities.

Last year we disbursed collection money and money raised by other functions to: The Smile Train, Children North East, Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust, Calls For Heroes, (mobile phones for servicemen serving abroad), Wansbeck General Hospital’s Oasis Room, netball teams in Bedlingtonshire and Everyman Prostate Cancer.
