Linksill Community Choir has won a competition to appear on stage with Tenors Unlikmited when they perform at The Phoenix Theatre in Blyth on Friday, April 22.

The group, from Blyth, was set up over two years ago by Irene Anderson and Paul McDermott for people who loved singing, but who did not read music and had not any experience of singing in a choir.

Irene said: “Our aim was to teach popular songs in a fun and supportive environment.

“In our time together we have sung at Whitley Bay Playhouse, The Sage Gateshead, performed our own concerts, had a song written for us and made a CD which raised £2,000 for a charity supporting homeless people in our area.”

Scott Ciscon, Paul Martin and Jem Sharples, who make up Tenors Unlimited, were impressed with Linskill’s audition video and their singing talents.

For over ten years the trio have entertained audiences throughout the world.

They have performed alongside such notables as Sting, Lionel Ritchie, Beyoncé, Hayley Westenra, Simply Red and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to name a few.

Using talents honed in their previous solo careers in opera and theatre, they bring their own blend of wit, charm and vocal arrangements to their performances.

Tenors Unlimited’s repertoire includes the popular classics ‘La Donna E Mobile’, ‘The Pearl Fishers Duet’ and ‘Nessun Dorma’, interspersed with favourites such as ‘Volare’, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, ‘Summertime’, as well as songs written by Tenors Unlimited themselves which include ‘Senza di Te’, from their current album ‘The Journey’, as well as the title tracks to their previous albums ‘Brand New Day’ and ‘Viva La Vita’.
