The chance to have a clown around is coming this way as the circus is to roll into Ashington.

The Netherlands National Circus, one of the largest in Europe, will be making an appearance in the town later this month.

It will be setting up its Big Top on the field at Ashington JW Rugby Club on August 18 and run until August 20, which is one of the final stops before the circus ends its UK tour.

The show is hosted by Yasmine Smart, who is recognised in the world of circus as one of the all-time leading lights, and was even inducted into the International Circus Hall of Fame last year.

Born in Windsor, she is the granddaughter of the famous English showman Billy Smart.

Ms Smart remains the only British artist to have received three highly coveted Monte Carlo festival awards on three separate occasions.

She is highly celebrated and acknowledged by circus fans around the world as one of the truly great personalities.

This all-human circus production is brimming with an international cast of artistes.

A spokeswoman said: “It’s marvellous to be on tour here with such a special show.

“This circus is from Holland, but the idea of circus performance was a British invention, and the circus is close to people’s hearts everywhere.

“There are no animals, and innovation and quality are at the top of the agenda for the international company of human performers.”

Performances will include a mix of comedy, juggling, illusion, silks, balancing acts and gravity defying flying trapeze, all performed to the accompaniment of the group’s own Netherlands National Circus orchestra.

There are no animals in the show, so roll up, roll up for quality, energy and magical presenting by a company of performers.
