Clean up at important nature site
Calls have been issued to join a community clean-up this weekend.
New Hartley Community Association and Seaton Valley Council have organised the event to clear litter around the New Hartley ponds.
The area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its population of great crested newts and is much-used by residents.
Volunteers are asked to help clear litter around the ponds and the path, which runs through the site.
Hand-held litter pickers, rubbish bags and support will be given, and refreshments will be available.
Anything particularly messy or potentially harmful to people or newts will be reported for council cleaners to deal with.
The litter-pick takes place on Saturday, from 10am. Participants should meet in the Memorial Hall, opposite the village shops.
