Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery opens the new clubhouse facilities at Ashington Rugby Club.

Ashington Rugby Club received £75,000 from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund to extend its clubhouse at The Recreation Ground in Ellington Road.

It will enable the club to host more social events.

President Paul Tanney said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which has enabled us to upgrade the quality of our premises to provide an attractive venue.”

Funding has also been provided by CISWO, Northumberland County Council, RFU Groundmatch, Banks Mining and local councillors.

The club supports junior and senior rugby, Green Lane Archery, Ellington Juniors, Northumberland Lightning and Northumberland Veterans Motorcycle Club.
