IT will be lift off over the Easter weekend in Newbiggin with a kite festival.
The ‘Flights of Fancy’ event is being held at Newbiggin Maritime Centre where there will be an array of colour on display.
The festival takes place on Easter Saturday and Sunday, with inflatables, aerial acrobatic displays, kite making workshops and flying demonstrations, as well as face painting and games for all the family.
But in the days leading up to Easter weekend, from the Wednesday to Good Friday, families will be given the chance to make their own kites to enter into a competition.
Then on the East Monday, April 9, the Pixar family film Up will be shown to round off the festival.
Mark Labrow, events officer at the maritime centre, said: “Flights of Fancy will be a fun filled weekend that we’re hoping will grow over years to come, putting Newbiggin-by-the-Sea firmly on the kite flying map.”
The event is free and has been supported by Newbiggin Town Council, Wansbeck CVS and the Vantage Fund. However, charges do apply for some of the activities on offer.
The festival at the Church Point centre is on from 10am to 3pm on the Saturday and Sunday.
