Community groups can get funding

Community groups across the county are being offered funding to help deliver projects through a community chest scheme.

Northumberland County Council’s scheme aims to support activities that will benefit local communities and is open to any voluntary, community, not-for-profit group or organisation based in, or predominantly serving Northumberland.

The money can be used for a range of purposes including events, or for the purchase of equipment. Grants of up to £10,000 are available, average grants awarded are between £2,500-£3,500.

The Community Chest fund will support one off initiatives, including those that will help support the development of long term projects that are valuable to the area.

Priority will be given to projects that are submitted by small community groups and groups that have not received a grant from this fund in the past.

This year there is a new funding criteria in place. There will be three funding rounds over the year, the deadline for the first round of applications is May 9.

The applications will be considered by funding panels made up of councillors local to the area.
