Community radio station picks guests

A COMMUNITY radio station has revealed some of its guests before going live next month.

Bosses at Bedlington-based Synergy radio are preparing to hit the air waves across south east Northumberland via 87.7FM and from Saturday, March 3.

And they have revealed their early programme schedules including award-winning author and former radio and TV journalist Barbara Henderson; Alex Bennett, head of Northumberland County Fire and Rescue Service; MPs Ronnie Campbell and Ian Lavery; and News Post Leader reporter Tegan Chapman.

Over the four weeks of broadcasting, Barbara – who has won several prizes for her short stories – will cover a wide range of topics.

The married mother-of-three said: “I hope I can be of help to people who are either thinking of writing just for their own enjoyment or who wish to specialise.

“I’ll also be covering the difficulties of getting your work into print, the dangers of ‘vanity’ publishing and the opportunities of getting work published online.”

Barbara, pictured, is currently working as a part-time lecturer in journalism and creative non-fiction at Northumbria University.

Mr Bennett was appointed chief fire and rescue officer in January this year.

Mr Campbell, a former miner, has represented Blyth Valley as a Labour MP since 1987 while fellow former miner Mr Lavery was elected MP for Wansbeck in 2010, also for Labour.
