Company fine for illegal advertising

A BEDLINGTON company has been fined after displaying illegal adverts from static caravans it placed in North Tyneside.

A1 Recovery and Dismantlers Ltd, based at West Sleekburn Industrial Estate, were prosecuted by North Tyneside Council.

At North Tyneside Magistrates Court on January 11, the company pleaded guilty to five separate offences of illegally advertising its services from trailers, being fined a total of £1,215.

The action was taken by the local authority following repeated offences by A1 Recovery and Dismantlers Ltd between June and October 2012 and its refusal to remove its trailer.

After the court hearing, Coun George Westwater, cabinet member for community and regulatory services at the council, said this kind of advertising could be a danger to motorists.

“Not only is this type of advertising illegal and unsightly, it can also be a dangerous distraction for drivers passing by,” he said.

“Outdoor advertising must be controlled in the interest of public safety and consent sought by businesses where necessary.

“As a council, we are pleased that our action has been supported by North Tyneside Magistrates and hope this case acts as a reminder and deterrent to others.”

The council received complaints about the company’s advertising trailer in Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Benton and Shiremoor.
