A Cramlington-based company specialising in a diverse range of high-end products for outdoor enthusiasts has scooped a national award.

Outdoor retailer fought off stiff competition to win ‘Online Retailer of the Year’ at The Great Outdoors (TGO) magazine awards ceremony.

Above and Beyond – run by husband and wife team Darren and Tracey Smith since 2005 – specialises in navigation and stocks one of the largest selections of navigational products online including Ordnance Survey (OS) maps, handheld GPS, compasses and digital mapping.

Darren said: “TGO awards are voted for by customers and not decided by a panel so we are not only delighted to have won an award of this calibre but to have been nominated by our amazing customers, I think, says a great deal about the kind of customer service and product offering we provide.”

The pair set up the company after identifying a gap in the market for the supply of Ordnance Survey maps and digital map data, now supplying to trade, retail and organisations.

Darren added: “Plans are rapidly taking shape for 2014 and beyond. We’re focused on continuing to develop our product ranges and have some exciting new brands.

“As ever, sitting still isn’t an option in the online world so we’re working closely with partners to develop both the front and back-end of the website.”
