Competion to help gardens bloom
Green-fingered residents in Ashington are being encouraged to showcase their gardens or allotments.
Ashington Town Council is again hosting its popular gardens competition.
There are six categories for residents to enter : Small Garden; Large Garden; Disabled Person’s Garden; Senior Citizen’s Garden; Allotment Garden and Commercial Property and Public House.
Town council chairman and Mayor of Ashington, Coun Ely Turnbull, said: “Following the success of the competition in recent years, there was a unanimous decision it should go ahead as a way of both recognising and rewarding the excellent gardening work undertaken by individual residents in the town.”
Town clerk Mike Slaughter added: “Since the town council reintroduced the competition in 2010, it seems to have generated a real interest within the community to maintain and enhance the environment and outlook in the town.
“The town council hope there will be opportunities in the future to work alongside interested residents for wider events in Ashington.”
