A fishing competition to raise funds for Newbiggin lifeboat station is taking place this weekend.

The competition, organised by lifeboat volunteers David Bryan and Peter Leslie, will take place on Saturday, May 18, to raise funds for the RNLI.

The competition will get underway at 10am once registration has taken place, with fishing closing at 2pm.

The fishing boundaries run from Tynemouth up to Amble up to five miles out to sea, and it is hoped to involve the other local lifeboat stations in the event.

At the end of the competition a ‘weigh-in’ will take place at Newbiggin lifeboat station where the results of the day will be announced.

Organiser David Bryan said: “We have already had many expressions of interest locally and from neighbouring ports so it should be a great day of fishing, and a different way to raise money.”

The event will be weather dependant, and if it has to be cancelled on the day then an alternative date will be announced to suit also the tides.

For further information about the competition and how to get involved is available by calling David Bryan on 07847 965542 or Peter Leslie on 07729 724393.
