A runner is preparing to take on a half marathon next month to raise funds in honour of her mother-in-law.
When Connie Hydes received the devastating news that her Ashington-based mother in law Joan Hydes had been diagnosed with lung cancer, her immediate response was to do something positive, and begin training for the Glasgow half marathon.
Connie said: “When Mick told me about his mam, I knew I just had to do something so I decided to run the half marathon and raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
“That way, I can give something back to assist with new research and new drugs so it may never happen to someone else again.
“I hope people will rally round because every penny will make a difference.
“I have been training hard since the middle of July for this race which is 13.1 miles – and that point one makes all the difference.”
Joan, who ran the Great North Run in 1986, added: “I’m very proud that Connie is going to do this.”
