Popular ambassadors are being re-trained to help promote all the hidden gems in the county.

Northumberland County Council is overseeing the return of the ‘Know Your Northumberland Ambassador’ programme for 2014-15’

The authority has teamed up with Northumberland College to run a range of accredited courses aimed at bed and breakfasts, restaurants, pubs, hotel staff, taxi drivers, shopkeepers and anyone else who works in a visitor facing environment.

The programme starts with one day culinary courses in November and in February goes on to the NCFE Level 2 Award for customer service.

These will then be followed by familiarisation trips, which teach people the secrets and hidden gems that Northumberland has to offer.

Coun Val Tyler, policy board member for community infrastructure and culture, said: “Northumberland is a wonderful county with a fantastic tourism industry and has many wide ranging traditions and tastes.

“It is through the sampling of our food we can give the experience of the unique taste of Northumberland.”

Places are limited and can be booked by contacting (01670) 622567.
