Northumberland County Council has been honoured for its work in supporting the armed forces.

The council was one of eight local organisations to receive a Ministry of Defence Silver Award at a presentation event at Beamish Hall Hotel.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) rewards and recognises UK employers for their support and commitment towards defence.

Coun Dave Ledger, deputy leader of the Council and the council’s armed forces champion, said: “We have a long and proud history at this council of supporting the local armed forces community including personnel, veterans and their families.

“We provide a whole range of services for the armed forces, from support and advice with childcare to mental health provision and employment and training information.”

The authority is also part of the Northumberland Armed Forces community covenant - a signed voluntary statement of mutual support between the council and representatives from the armed forces.
