A voluntary organisation in Wansbeck has been given a cash boost to help with the purchase of sound equipment.
Wansbeck Country Club has been awarded a grant of just over £1,500 from Northumberland County Council’s community chest fund to help replace ageing equipment including speakers, a laptop, cabling and a microphone.
The club has been established for more than 22 years and provides country music and line dance social evenings in the Bomarsund Welfare Centre in Stakeford.
Volunteer Stephen Armstrong said: “We are a small committee and a non-profit making organisation, committed to the club and the community that come to the welfare. The money from the council really is a great boost to us and our club.”
Coun Dave Ledger, policy board member for corporate resources, said: “The functions that are laid on by the club have been enjoyed by all ages of the community for many years.
“We are delighted to have been able to offer financial support for this local cause.”
The group is holding a free line dancing event on Friday, November 14, at 7pm, Bomarsund Welfare, for anyone wishing to come along.
