County chosen for top health network
The county of Northumberland has been announced by NHS England as one of only 15 areas nationally set to accelerate work to involve people in taking more control of their own health and well-being.
Health and care partners across the county were chosen thanks to extensive work already under way as part of the Northumberland vanguard initiative.
The 15 areas selected in England will form a new empowering people and communities (EPC) network – a key part of the NHS Five Year Forward View programme.
The Northumberland organisations selected will now receive extra support and expertise from NHS England to further engage with local communities, including schools.
The aim of this important work is to truly address some of the causes of ill health and encourage people to think about, and take accountability for, their own well-being, as well as support those with long-term conditions to feel more in control of their own health.
David Evans, chief executive at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re hugely excited about this work and involving all corners of our population.”
