Pupils from Bothal Primary School took part in the contest at the Ashington branch of My Family Vets North East.

Their entries were displayed in the Station Road premises, before vet Dick Thompson selected the winners. Prizes were presented at a school assembly.

The vets is now planning a Christmas colouring competition for all ages, with sheets available from the branch. It will also hold a festive pet photo competition.

And on Thursday, December 15 there will be a festive gathering.

It will include a tombola and mince pies, with cake and mulled apple juice available for a donation to practice charity Wag and Co, which enables volunteers and their dogs to visit older people.

Receptionist Lindsay Dixon and her Siberian husky Shadow are Wag members.
