Arrest made after man is stabbed in the leg

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Ashington.

A 29-year-old man was walking along Alexandra Road between the park entrance and the printer’s shop on Saturday at 7.30pm, when he was approached by a man.

The man then stabbed him twice in the thigh before walking off in the company of another man.

The injured man managed to go home before he was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington where he was released after treatment.

The man who stabbed him is described as wearing a zip-up tracksuit top, possibly burgundy in colour, he was small in height.

The man he was with was over 6ft 2ins tall and well built.

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the incident.

He is currently helping police with enquiries.
