Attempted robbery at store in Northumberland


Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery in Ashington.

It happened at the Discount Centre in Hawthorn Road at 6pm on Thursday, March 19.

A man entered the shop and he attempted to steal cash, but left empty handed.

The shop assistant was left shaken by the incident but otherwise uninjured.

The offender is described as a man aged approximately 19 and is of medium build. He had a black scarf covering his face and was carrying an orange bucket.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers were put on patrol following the incident.
