Drugs hauls seized in police raids

DRUGS and suspected stolen goods were seized by police during a series of raids in Bedlington, Lynemouth and Ashington last week.

The homes of 11 suspected drug dealers and thieves were searched in the early hours of Tuesday and Wednesday last week.

Police found a quantity of cannabis at an address in Alexandra Road in Ashington, and a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Counterfeit clothing was seized at a property in Ashington’s Ariel Street, and a 30-year-old man was arrested for possessing and distributing items with false trademarks.

A raid on an address in Sycamore Street, also in Ashington, uncovered a quantity of cannabis, and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug.

A suspected stolen television was found at an address in Lynemouth’s Neville Square.

Those arrested have since been bailed pending further inquiries.

Inspector Barrie Joisce, of Ashington’s neighbourhood policing team, said: “This is a continuation of our recent targeting of criminals suspected of dealing drugs and committing crime in the Ashington and Bedlington areas.

“Multiple addresses were targeted, a number of seizures were made and several arrests resulted.

“Offenders should be aware that we will act on intelligence received from the community regarding their criminal conduct and that we will robustly target them.

“Significant crime reductions have been achieved in the Ashington and Bedlington areas in the last year, and we are committed to driving this level down further and disrupting the lives of those who impact on their fellow residents.

“I would urge to local residents to assist us by providing information on those committing crime in their areas and reporting any suspicious activity they see.”
