Firearms seized after hostel incident

TWO firearms have been seized by police following an incident at a Blyth homeless hostel.

Officers were called to the Thoroton Hotel on the corner of Marlow Street and Renwick Road in the early hour of Sunday.

They had received a report, at 1.38am, of a man in possession of an air weapon.

Shortly afterwards they were told a man had been struck in the arm with an air weapon pellet, although he was not injured.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear, while another man, aged 42, was held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police recovered an air weapon and a BB gun as part of their investigation.

Detective Inspector Steve Pescod said: “We received reports of an incident ongoing and attended, following extensive enquiries we made two arrests and seized the air weapon and BB gun.

“I’d like to reassure people that there are two people currently in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
