THIEVES targeted a parked car in Ashington and stole a games console and cash.
The vehicle was parked in Dereham Close between 12.10pm and 2pm on Friday, February 25, when the pink Nintendo DS was taken along with a small amount of change.
Cramlington Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Fitzgerald said: “This shows that thieves are operating in the middle of the day and not just at night.
“They are willing to break into cars for anything that’s left inside – even small amounts of change.
“Those committing these type of thefts are scouring the streets trying car doors until they find one that’s been left unlocked.
“They then help themselves to whatever the owner has left inside – money, sat navs, phones – anything they can get their hands on.
“It’s up to the public to help us put a stop to opportunist thieves.
“Make life difficult for them by locking your car doors, taking out anything of any value and reporting anyone who you see trying car doors or acting suspiciously to police immediately.”
Anyone with any information regarding the stolen items is asked to call 03456 043043 ext 69191.
