Men charged following burglary at factory unit

POLICE have charged three men with burglary after they tried to steal copper cable and piping from the Officer#s Club factory in Cramlington.

At 9.18pm on Monday, February 11, police received a report that the alarm had activated at the factory unit at Bassington Lane.

Officers attended and found three people on site and attempts had been made to steal copper cable and piping from the premises.

Meryn Hope, 29, of Alexandra Road, Ashington, Mark Meryn Sexton, 49, of Ettrick Gardens in Gateshead, and Wayne Michael Tully, 41, of Juliet Street in Ashington have been charged with burglary.

They are due to appear at South East Magistrates’ Court on February 28.

The charges follow a previous separate incident at the site which happened at 10pm on Sunday, January 27, where again the alarm was activated and three different people found on site.

Two men separate to the above, aged 45 and 33 were charged with burglary, while a man aged 28 was charged with being found on enclosed premises.

They are currently going through the court process.

Neighbourhood Inspector Trevor Oakley said: “We’re working very closely with the site owners and are carrying out regular enquiries to prevent offences from taking place at the site.

“Six people have been charged with two recent reports of burglaries taking place at and are currently going through the court process.”
