Newbiggin shop held up at knifepoint

Cash was stolen during an armed robbery at a Newbiggin newsagents’ on Thursday morning.

A man wearing a dark hooded top and baseball cap walked into the shop, in Front Street, shortly after 11am.

No one was injured, however, the man made off with a money box, kept behind the counter.

Police have increased patrols in the area to assist in the investigation of the robbery and to reassure businesses and residents.
