METAL cable has been stolen from an industrial estate in Bedlington.

Thieves targeted the site in West Sleekburn, climbing two telegraph poles to get to a length of cable, between 10am on Saturday and 10am on Monday.

They then cut the cable from the poles and made off with a 50-metre length, causing homes nearby to temporarily lose their phone connections.

Police are visiting scrapyards in a bid to track down the stolen cable.

They are also appealing to potential witnesses to call them on 03456 043043 ext 69191.
