Sat nav and tools stolen from vehicles

MOTORISTS in Ashington are being urged to remove valuables from their vehicles after a car and a van were targeted.

Thieves smashed the window of a car parked in Fontburn Crescent at 9.30pm on Friday, March 4, and stole a Tom Tom sat nav.

Then between midnight and 6am on Sunday, March 6, a van parked in Ariel Street was broken into and three Makita drills, an AEG drill and an extension lead were taken.

Ashington Neighbourhood Inspector Jackie Coleman said: “We’re doing a lot of work to try and address the number of thefts from cars and vans in the area and we need the public’s help to put a stop to these crimes.

“Don’t leave your sat nav, phone, tools or anything of value inside your car. Take it with you and store it somewhere safe.”

Anyone with any information into the thefts is asked to contact police on 03456 043043 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
