MOTORISTS in Morpeth are being urged to make sure their vehicles are locked following a recent spate of thefts from unlocked cars.

The most recent theft happened overnight between Tuesday, August 2, and the following day when thieves stole two jackets left in the back of an unlocked 4x4 parked in the drive of a house in the Green Lane area.

Morpeth Neighbourhood Sergeant Dave Simpson said: “Thieves are operating in Morpeth and are targeting vehicles that have been left unlocked.

“I’d advise residents, and visitors to the area, to make sure their cars are secure if leaving them unattended for any amount of time.

“Just because your car is parked on your driveway don’t assume its safe – make sure it’s locked and make sure nothing of value is left out on show.”

Anyone with any information into the Green Lane theft is asked to contact police in Morpeth on 03456 043043 ext 69191.
